Your point of view determines your reality. You can see the glass is half full or half empty – the water does not change but your interpretation does.

I used to be a perfectionist. But goodwill often means that I did nothing because the time, place, or position of Mercury toward the sun was inappropriate.

Now, this is where your point of view comes into play.

Instead of viewing a less-than-ideal result as wasted time, view it as a file Version 1.0 The cornerstone of the best you can do.

My first article was sloppy. My first rep in the gym were wobbly. My first dates were funny at best and annoying at worst.

You have to start somewhere.

Even if you don’t have the time, skills, or energy to produce perfection from the start, you can still do something of value.

  • Submit one bid.
  • Read one page.
  • Do one exercise.
  • Meditate for a minute.
  • Eat one healthy meal.

That’s all you have to do.

Once you’ve rolled the ball, it’s easy to maintain momentum — and improve along the way.

This is a harsh fact:

There is so much more to explore and experience on this earth than you will ever have time for.

Especially if you lack the motivation to make the bullshit happen.

You will die – most likely before you are ready to do so.

This is all the motivation you need. I mean, look at the world around you. See the endless possibilities and opportunities, all the fun you can have, all the feelings you can feel, all the adventures you can take. And you want to leave it all on the table because you’re feeling lazy or want to scroll through memes instead?

I I know You understand this. On a basic level, you feel the same existential dread as everyone else. However, your ideas are often too far from making a real difference – a Netflix special is on right now, and it won’t be your death for a few decades.

But when you face the harsh reality of your limited life, it pushes you into gear.

Whenever I feel lazy and unmotivated, I fantasize about my death. Not in stomach rot, smashed into a car wreck somehow. But by picturing myself on my deathbed, I fall short of achieving all the things I wanted to achieve and experience because I procrastinated.

It’s not a nice feeling, but it’s a good motivation.

Because sometimes, all you need is a hard kick in the ass.

How to turn the script if you find excuses

You can fool yourself into productivity the same way you fool yourself into procrastination.

When I went for walks with my dad, I got blisters on my foot because he’s obsessed with endurance – but I’ve also noticed an interesting pattern.

Every time you have a long, straight stretch of path in front of you, it feels endless. You count the steps and fear life’s choices. But as you make your way through a winding forest path where you can only see nearly a hundred meters ahead, your perception changes.

  • Put your phone out of sight and within reach when you want to work
  • Hide the TV remote control and replace it with a book
  • Download a website blocker for your laptop
  • cleaning process your desk so there’s nothing to distract you
  • Set up your WiFi router to turn off at a certain time

The possibilities are endless.

Prepare your environment the right way and you’ll beat procrastination on autopilot.
