5G and the Metaverse are critical technologies for 2023

The top five areas of technology this year, according to a recent survey, will be cloud computing, 5G, metaverse, electric vehicles and the Industrial Internet of Things.

The survey consulted 350 CIOs, CIOs, IT managers and other technology leaders in Brazil, China, India, the UK and the US.

in “The Impact of Technology in 2023 and Beyond: The IEEE Global StudyThe global top executives also focused on areas that could benefit from 5G implementation, what tasks will be automated by AI, and how they plan to adopt the metaverse.

Nearly 95 percent of leaders said that integrating technologies that would help their organizations become more sustainable and energy efficient is a top priority.

The executives said they believe telecommunications, transportation, energy and financial services will be the areas most impacted by technology this year.

They also shared which areas would benefit from 5G implementation.

5G effect

Almost all of the technology leaders agreed that 5G is likely to impact vehicle connectivity and automation the most. They said areas that would benefit from 5G include distance learning and education; telemedicine; live broadcasts of sports and other entertainment programming; daily communications; transportation and traffic control.

About 95 percent said that the satellites used to provide connectivity in rural areas would enable 5G-enabled devices to connect from anywhere at any time. inmeeting with IEEE transmitter On the findings, IEEE is a senior member Eleanor Watson He predicted that space satellites would be a game-changer because “they enable bypassing the need to build expensive terrestrial infrastructure. They are also the ultimate virtual private network – a VPN – for accessing content outside the law.”

“Technology associated with the Metaverse will be a major contributor to reducing carbon emissions because it allows technologists and engineers to run simulations, rather than relying on real-world demonstrations running on conventional energy.”

Automation through AI and Digital Twins

Almost all technology leaders — 98 percent — said routine tasks and processes such as data analysis would be automated thanks to AI-powered collaborative software and mobile bots, allowing workers to be more efficient and effective.

The same percentage agreed that digital dual technology and virtualization that make the design, development, and testing of prototypes and manufacturing processes more efficient will become more important. A digital twin is a virtual model of a real-world object, machine, or system that can be used to evaluate the performance of its real-world counterpart.

Meetings in Metaverse

Leaders are considering ways to use the metaverse in their operations. 91 percent said they plan to use the technology for corporate training sessions, conferences, and corporate meetings. They said that 5G networks and ubiquitous connectivity, virtual reality headsets, and augmented reality glasses will be important to further the development of the metaverse.

Companies look to the metaverse to help them achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Senior member of IEEE Daozhuang Lin Tell IEEE transmitter that “technology associated with metaverses will be a major contributor to reducing carbon emissions because it allows technologists and engineers to run simulations, rather than relying on real-world renderings that run on conventional energy.” But for the technology to really take off, participants said, more innovations are needed in 5G networks, ubiquitous connectivity, virtual reality headsets, augmented reality glasses, and haptic devices.
