The short version is that new AI features will be added to Google Docs and Gmail over the course of this year. These new features will be used to generate suggestions for rewriting specific sections of Google Docs and select sections of messages you compose in Gmail.
Other Google Workspace AI features to look out for later this year include auto-generated photos and videos in presentations, data analysis tools in Sheets, and note capture in Google Meet.
Education apps
I didn’t see anything in today’s announcement that specifically says whether or not these AI tools will be available in Google Workspace for Education accounts. It will be interesting to see how Google handles this in the future. The AI-powered rewrite functionality in Google Docs could have a huge impact on how we teach the writing process. Likewise, automatically generated images and slides can have a significant impact on how students teach presentation design.
