“I am looking forward to the match. I am excited to play against Chivas, a team where I have achieved important things as a group and as an individual. I am still focused on my recovery, but the match against Chivas motivates me to come back and be able to play.”

Pulido first joined Chivas in 2016, and quickly became one of the most influential figures on the roster. He inspired the team to the 2017 Liga MX Clausura title and became one of the two leading scorers of the Apertura 2019, before leaving for Sporting Kansas City in December 2019.

Despite the early success, his stint in Major League Soccer was plagued by injury. He’s been out for about a year, after tore his anterior cruciate ligament while on international duty with the Mexico national team.

But the long-awaited return of the player is scheduled for 2023.

“The way he’s going, Alan is looking forward to getting ready for the first game of the season. But that doesn’t necessarily mean I’m going to play him,” said Sporting Kansas City coach and athletic director Peter Vermes.

Pulido and SKC kick off their 2023 MLS campaign on February 25 when they take on the Portland Timbers at Providence Park.
