TL; DR
- Google announced Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 the week of March 13th.
- Those who are already enrolled in the Beta Program will get the update automatically.
- Beta program members will not receive the public stable version of Android 13 QPR2.
It’s been a few weeks since Google released the last beta version of it Android 13 QPR2 (Platform Quarterly Release) It looks like the company is ready to start the next cycle of its beta program. The next beta update will be Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 and it will be released soon.
using its official reddit Google has announced that it will be releasing Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 in the week of March 13th. This update will be downloaded automatically for members of the Beta Program. With the new beta release, these members will get a taste of QPR3 before the stable version is in the hands of the public. The stable version of the update is expected sometime in June.
Something interesting to note in the tech giant’s post is the mention of the process change. It appears that users registered in the Beta Program will not receive the March QPR2 stable release next year. If members of the Beta program want the stable update, they will have to opt out of the program. Otherwise, they will only move to Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1.
The company isn’t clear if this process will be the approach going forward or if it’s just a one-time deal. However, given the wording, it sounds more like something they’re just doing for this specific show. As one Reddit user points out, this may be a situation where Google has had a conflict with the QPR2 delay and its desire to push the QPR3 beta.
If you want to opt out of the program without having to erase your data, Google has provided some instructions in the post. These instructions include:
Withdrawing from the programme Before March 13th, ignore/don’t apply the OTA update, and wait for the last public stable version of the March Feature Drop (QPR2) released this month. Canceling the subscription will not clear data as long as you do not apply OTA downgrade. NB: If you want to immediately revert to the latest public build, you can apply an OTA downgrade which will require a data wipe as per the program’s usual instructions. If you received the Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 update, do not install the update. Instead, first opt out of the program, ignore/don’t apply the OTA update, and wait for the official March public release. NB: If you opt out of the Program after installing the QPR3 beta 1 update, all user data on the device will be erased according to the Program’s usual instructions.
