Andy Robertson insists Liverpool don’t miss Sadio Mane

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson insists his struggles this season are not due to Sadio Mane’s departure last summer.

After a six-year sojourn at Anfield, Mane opted to join Bayern Munich at the end of the 2021/22 season having won every trophy available to him during his time on Merseyside.

In his absence, Liverpool were overwhelmed. The Reds entered the 2022/23 season as one of the favorites to win the Premier League title, but they will now do well to finish in the top four.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League after losing 6-2 on aggregate to Real Madrid in the rematch of last year’s final, while they were eliminated in the fourth rounds of the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.

But Robertson insists Liverpool’s problems are not due to Mane’s sudden exit.

when asked in BBC Radio 5 Live whether Liverpool Miss Manny replied, “Honestly, no.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a great relationship with Sadio in terms of me and him on the left flank for five years. It’s been a pleasure to play with him, in every game.

“I loved playing with him, we bonded really well. He helped me come back, the way I helped him move on. And yeah, we bonded really well. When he left, there was probably no one more to me because of the relationship we had.”

“But we have great players who can play in their positions. We brought in Darwin [Nunez]which was really good to start with.

“We have Luis Diaz who’s obviously injured and injured again and things like that, which is tough. [Diogo Jota] He can play there, whoever is injured.

“We’ve been a little bit unlucky with the injuries, I think once they get back to full fitness, yeah.

“Look, Sadio was a great player, a Liverpool legend but he wanted to go and he went to Bayern Munich and we wish him all the best.

“We need to collect the pieces and I think we have the players to do that.”
