From Gtech Community Stadium – Arsenal named 15-year-old midfielder Ethan Nwaneri to the bench for their trip to Brentford on Sunday.

Arsenal are relatively light in midfield after losing Mohamed Elneny to injury recently, while Thomas Partey is only back to full fitness.

Club captain Martin Odegaard has taken a beating and will miss Sunday’s clash with the Bees, but Mikel Arteta has named highly-rated youngster Nwaneri to his squad after it was reported earlier this weekend that he will be traveling with the squad.

Nwaneri, who was born a few months after the Emirates Stadium opened, would become the youngest player in the history of the Premier League if he came off the bench.

Liverpool star Harvey Elliott is the current record holder, appearing for Fulham at just 16 years and 30 days old in 2019.

Nwaneri only made his Arsenal Under-21 debut earlier this month, but he has clearly made a lasting impression on Arteta and his coaching staff.

Elsewhere in the squad, Fabio Vieira made his Premier League debut after Odegaard’s injury, while Barty made a straight return to midfield alongside Granit Xhaka. Replaces Albert Sambi Lokonga from Arsenal3-1 loss to Manchester United.
