Best gaming and productivity laptops to buy in 2022 – Technology News, Firstpost

We’ve reached that point of maturity with laptop design where you no longer need to choose between a gaming laptop or a productivity laptop. You can now buy hybrid designs that embody the best of both worlds, offering impressive elegance in a slim form factor plus uninhibited gaming performance. The devices that best embody these ideals are the Stealth GS laptops from MSI. For the creatively inclined, MSI also has a dedicated line of “Creator” laptops.

Let’s start with the Stealth GS line. These are capable gaming laptops, of course, but they pack powerful hardware into a relatively thin chassis. Most of the models in this line are finished in black—for a more stealthy look—which allows them to blend in well in an office or college environment. Plus, they all include SteelSeries keyboards with per-key RGB lighting, support for Hi-Res audio playback, 8K 60Hz displays, Wi-Fi 6E, and more.

Here’s what we recommend to buy from MSI’s comprehensive suite:

MSI Stealth GS77

If you’re looking for the best of the best, look no further than the Stealth GS77. Powered by 12The tenth Nvidia’s latest GeForce RTX 30 Series CPUs and GPUs deliver uninhibited performance in a relatively slim 17-inch chassis. Alongside this exceptional hardware is fast DDR5 RAM and NVMe SSDs, not to mention an impressive array of monitors to choose from. Depending on what you’re playing, you can choose anything from an FHD 360Hz panel all the way up to a 4K 120Hz panel.

MSI’s CoolerBoost 5 technology, which features two 0.1mm-blade fans and six heatpipes, keeps all that hot tech running cool. With a 99.9Wh battery, if you’re not into gaming, this powerful device will get you through a day of work or college with ease without having to run to the nearest power outlet.

This is an excellent device intended not just for gamers with deep pockets, but for someone who really appreciates good design and is willing to pay that premium for uncompromising performance. The large screen also makes it a great device for people who work in 3D modeling, architecture, and similar fields.

We recommend going for the Intel Core i7 + Nvidia GeForce 3070 Ti variant which can be had for Rs 3,35,990.

MSI Stealth GS66

If the GS77’s 2.8kg weight is a concern, you might want to take a look at the Stealth GS66. It packs essentially the same hardware and performance components, but in a smaller and lighter 15.6-inch chassis that weighs just 2.1kg.

You get support for the same 12The tenth Gen CPUs, RTX 30-series GPUs, DDR5 RAM, etc. But now you get the CoolerBoost Trinity+ cooling system featuring 3 fans and 7 heat pipes. Additional fans and heat pipes allow this slimmer chassis to function just like the larger GS77, allowing the GPU to boost up to 105W TGP when possible.

Given its size and features, we would classify the GS66 as an excellent multifunctional device, which is great as an everyday carry for the gamer with deep pockets.

The Core i7 + RTX 3070 Ti variant goes for Rs 3,13,990 and is the model we recommend you to go for. If you just need a gaming machine and don’t need the extra power of a 12The tenth Gen Intel CPUs offer, you can also choose 11The tenth The Gen i7-powered, RTX 3070 variant which retails at a pocket-friendly Rs 2,35,990.

MSI Stealth GS76

For the best value, get the MSI Stealth GS76. As with other devices in the GS line, it shares most of the important features of the GS77, including RTX 30-series GPUs, the same rendering options, high-speed storage, and a monster 99.9 WHr battery that promises around 11 hours of display time.

You get the CoolerBoost Trinity+ cooling system instead of the CoolerBoost 5 (with 3 fans and 6 heatpipes), and since the GS76 is only available with 11The tenth General CPUs, you get DDR4 RAM.

For most users, the GS76 is ideal. 11The tenth Generic CPUs may look like a late generation on paper, but they’re still some of the most powerful CPUs you can buy today. More importantly, it will have little or no impact on gaming performance, especially at higher resolutions.

If you are considering the GS76, we recommend the Intel Core i7-11800H variant with a 240Hz QHD display and RTX 3060 graphics. This can be had for a very reasonable Rs 1,74,990 which is exceptional value for all.

Calling all creators!

For the more creative among you, MSI’s dedicated “Creator” series range delivers slimmer, sleeker and more powerful designs with hardware tuned for content creation.

MSI Creator Z17

Priced at Rs 4,70,990, this reddot design and winner of the CES Innovation Award is not for the faint of heart. As expected from the price, you get the best not only in hardware, but also in innovation.

Running this beast of a machine is 12The tenth Gen Intel Core i9-12900H and RTX 3080 Ti with 8GB of VRAM, not to mention 64GB of DDR5 RAM and 2TB of NVMe storage. With AI accelerators and support for RT cores in apps like Premiere Pro and After Effects, you’ll get desktop-class performance in a thin and light laptop that’s just 19mm thick and weighs 2.49kg. You can edit 8K HDR video, work with massive 3D objects, and even beam-render entire scenes in just seconds!

And not only that. Trackpad is 50% larger than normal, 17″ QHD display is the world’s first 17″ touchscreen, supports 100% DCI-P3 for color, is Kalman certified for color accuracy, and comes with a productivity focused 16:10 aspect ratio to height.

The 90Wh battery ensures hours of power, and the CoolerBoost Trinity+ cooling system ensures that performance stays high and steady.

The price may be high, but as an innovator, you also get a lot of laptop at this price.

MSI Creator Z16P

Think of the MSI Creator Z16P as basically a shrunken Z17. Priced at Rs 3,35,990, this model offers an Intel Core i7-12700H processor paired with an RTX 3070 Ti with 8GB of VRAM and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. Being slightly smaller, the body is also lighter at 2.39 kg. The 16-inch screen provides similar levels of quality and performance to those in the Z17.

To ensure similar levels of performance with the larger, more spacious Z17, MSI’s Z16P opts for a powerful and efficient vapor chamber cooling system that promises excellent thermal performance, allowing the CPU and GPU to boost to nearly the same levels as they do in the larger Z17 model. .

You lose out on the Z17’s six-speaker array and huge screen, but the drop in price and weight more than make up for it. The Z16P is designed for senior creators who want pen support and portability and can’t afford to compromise on performance. Oh, and this laptop is also a Reddot Award winner.

MSI Creator Z16 software

If you need something slimmer and lighter, and don’t need high-end performance, the regular Z16 is the model we recommend for the average content creator.

For ₹2,40,990, you get an Intel Core i7-12700H with RTX 3060 (6GB of VRAM, 70W TGP), 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. The chassis also shrinks to 15.9mm and the weight drops further to 2.2kg. You lose the SD card slot and stylus support but get a microSD and a touch screen instead.

Lower VRAM will affect larger 3D rendering workloads and limit the resolutions you can play at compared to what you’ll get with the Z17 and Z16P. However, you still get RTX cores and Nvidia Broadcast support, not to mention powerful video encoding/decoding features for broadcasting, rendering, video editing, and content creation.

We recommend the model with 12The tenth Gen CPU thanks to high multi-core performance – up to 45% faster than 11The tenth Gen – Better battery life thanks to more efficient CPU e-cores, and increased GPU headroom to extract that extra bit of performance.

Choose the cheapest 11The tenth A generic model if you don’t need extreme multi-core performance and want to save some cash. Performance is good in most use cases, and the money you save can go to accessories and additional storage, depending on your needs.

So…which laptop will you pick up this year?
