Thieneman is taking a different path to Purdue than the team-turned-captain before him. The defensive back was a three-star recruit and the 14th-best player in Indiana in the recruiting class of 2023, according to Rivals.

The westfield, indiana native selected boilermakers over offers from IndianaAnd North WestAnd MinnesotaAnd Central MichiganAnd Marshall And Toledo among other things.

Thienemann was recognized by the Indiana Football Coaches Association as one of the best players in the state after his senior season.

The coaches voted him the winner of the 2022 Mr. Football Award at the defensive back position. It is an award given to the most outstanding players in each position group and makes them finalists for the overall Mr. Football award. He was also named to the IFCA Top 50 All-State and All-Conference Teams.

Thienman’s high school career at Westfield was fruitful. He recorded 246 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and five interceptions before coming to West Lafayette. The Westfield three-star also went to the Class 6A State Championship in 2021 before falling to Center Grove.

Thienman discusses continuing the family tradition, as he progresses to campus in January and more in “Welcome Aboard.”

“I think it’s definitely special for me to carry on the tradition. Some of the seniors remember Brennan from their freshman year so it was great to be able to talk to them. I asked them a few things I was concerned about and other things but apart from that it was just getting started.” In moving myself in order to be more self-sufficient.”

“The first week on campus was so much fun and full of all kinds of new experiences. Meeting the other freshmen, meeting other players, practicing, going to the facility and going to class. The first week of practices was just getting in and practicing whenever I could.”

“I really like the new staff. They are very detail oriented and how you do one thing is how you do everything.”

“Defensively, they want every defensive back to learn all positions for the cross-drill. That way anyone can get a feel for all the defensive back positions.”

“I have a goal to stay on top of my class and not be left behind. I also want to make an impression on the team and earn people’s respect in this way. I think the wisdom of the team was to just improve and be better than the previous years team.”

“West Lafayette felt like a second home. I grew up watching Purdue football, it’s just a dream come true, and it was great to finally be able to explore campus a little more deeply.”
