We moved to our house in Brooklyn six years ago, but a lot has changed since then – colorful walls! New sofa! Boys with giant feet! – That this is the right time to share an update. Please come inside…

When creating a haven: Life is all things playful, exhilarating, stressful, difficult, Beautiful. Through the ups and downs of the past few years, I’ve wanted my kids to feel safe and loved, so I’ve tried to follow these smart women’s tips: Make home feel like a sanctuary And Let your eyes light up when you see your baby. Sometimes the important things are the simplest, don’t you think?
In a new section: We’ve had it Two smaller sofas, but as the boys got older and taller, we realized we needed more room to stretch out. Teenagers are long-legged! So, I did a bunch of research and found out home before marriage. They’re known for their customer service (important because ordering furniture can be difficult), and they offer a range of different options (fabrics, colors, lengths, etc.). We ended up choosing Varrickthat feels light and comfy—think: oversized arms, a low profile, tall pillows—and now we regularly stretch out for naps, movie nights, board games, holidays with loads of guests…my boyfriend said he instantly turned our house into a party house And I must say, I really like her.

On nesting coffee tables: With clips, people need more surfaces for Legos, drinks and newspapers. So, we arrived Three nesting tables, which we can rearrange at any time. We usually have the two larger ones in the middle of the room, and the smaller one as a side table; But if we are playing an epic game or eating popcorn while watching a movie, we are going to give it a try.
On family photos: when alex Recently moved to another apartment, I wondered what the redecoration protocol was: Should I remove pictures of it? Should I pack his books? But it was a mistake to immediately hide all evidence of this wonderful and important person who has lived in my life for the past fifteen years. More importantly, during this transition period, I didn’t want to exchange pictures of the boys’ father and make the house feel unfamiliar to them. So, I decided to trust my intuition and just let things go for the time being. As we move forward, I think we’ll replace it with new family memories and snapshots.

For family meals: We make a simple dinner, and the boys help cook. Toby fry shrimp with mango and make his own Our famous chocolate chip cookies. Meanwhile, Anton is a self-proclaimed “god of eggs,” he says, so some will scramble while he plays 1940s Wartime Radio on Spotify, which seems to be brand related to a kid who was 80 years old.
When eating for one person: In the evenings when I’m alone at home, I like to eat cheese and crackers, in addition Soda; or i do Great salad. Then I watch a TV series – now I’m between shows, if you have any suggestions? (This shorthand address Made me laugh.)

About entertainment: Twice a week, we’ll invite people over in the evenings. We keep it informal and to order Pizza and salads Or make an ice cream sundae. One of the funny things about hosting I’ve realized is that it’s easy to obsess over the details beforehand – does this shirt look good? Should we find a bowl of chips? we’ve got never window cleaning? – But you forget about any worries as soon as your friends walk in the door and start talking and laughing. Therefore, we now go for it and never regret it.
When mixing: Last Christmas I taught the boys how to socialize, a parenting experience that still makes me laugh. Before our adult friends came over, I told the boys that people would naturally break into small groups (“How do you actually know that?” Toby said, eyes wide), and at the start of the party, it was the role of the host to move between the groups and chat for a few minutes in each group. The boys enthusiastically accepted the challenge and spent half an hour alternating between the groups. “Okay, I have to go!” Toby told some friends at one point. “The five minutes are up!”

About the joy of painting: How would you describe your home décor style? Over the past year, I have started reading House and gardenBritish Shelter Magazine. It’s very good, and let me tell you, the British love their colours. It seems like every room has a wallpaper or paint color, by which I knew it My grandmother’s houseBut I didn’t do it alone. So! Inspired, I decided to Paint our dining room blue. It took me a while to find a pale one that wouldn’t read Babysitting, or feel cold, but I finally landed Parma GrayThis is beautiful.

About growth: nine years Anton He’s in that middle school, where he watches cartoons and listens to hip-hop, but he still sleeps with stuffed animals and calls out lullabies. In a room of his own: Presently I sleep in this room alone, and the pink paint makes me feel like a womb. The only drawback is that the bumps at night sometimes scare me, but mostly I like to sleep like a starfish and reading books So I can’t keep my eyes open.

Their big tip, when they came to dinner and I asked for house tip, was to get a big run Umbrella mirror. They said “we use it in every apartment we decorate”. “They’re the cheapest mirrors we could find, and they work well for rentals because you only need one nail.” Done and done.

In a beautiful home: We moved around a lot when I was young—first, countries, then different homes in Michigan after my parents’ divorce. When I come to New YorkI lived in apartments for an average of two or three years before I had to move for one reason or another. But we have now lived in this house for about seven years. When I look around me, there are layered memories in every corner – Anton stays up past bedtimeAnd Toby writes a note to the tooth fairyAnd Friends bring cookies – It fills my heart. I’m also grateful for this house for being a safe haven during a pandemic and for always allowing us to fill it with loud kids, smelly cheeses, and Motown songs without any complaint. I told New York Magazine I want to live and die here, and I really do. xoxo
Thank you for reading, as always. Let me know if you have any questions, and I’ll be happy to answer! xoxo
