Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he disagrees with teammate Cristiano Ronaldo regarding the influence of new Portugal coach Roberto Martinez.

The former Everton and Belgium boss has been named Fernando Santos’ surprising successor after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

While Martinez was known for his attacking and entertaining coaching, his teams were often characterized by haphazard and sloppy defending – the exact opposite of how Portugal played under Santos.

Ronaldo, who scored four goals in two matches for Portugal this month, was quick to tell reporters of the positive impact Martinez has had on the team.

“It’s a new chapter for everyone, for the players, the machine and the country. We feel good energy. It’s a breath of fresh air,” said the Al-Nasr striker.

But when speaking to the portuguese channel RTP3Fernandez boils in Ronaldo’s enthusiastic rule.

When asked if he agreed with Ronaldo’s comments, Fernandez He replied, “No, it’s just a new coach with new ideas. There’s no breath of fresh air at all. It’s just a transitional period.”

“The atmosphere in the national team has always been good. There was nothing that wasn’t fresh, so I think it’s just new dynamics, a new coach, and you have to absorb his ideas.”

Portugal got off to a perfect start under Martinez’s management, winning 4-0 at home over Liechtenstein before beating Luxembourg 6-0 on the road.

Fernandes and Ronaldo’s careers have recently intertwined due to their prominence with the Portuguese national team and their 15 months together in Manchester United.

Upon Fernandes’ arrival in England, the Old Trafford faithful created a chant referring to his arrival “from Sporting as Cristiano”.

The pair never reached their highest levels in tandem while at United, and Ronaldo’s bitter exit in November 2022 followed them appearing on frosty terms ahead of the World Cup.

but Ronaldo He denied this suggestion at the time, telling the press: “My relationship with him is excellent.”
