Cardano’s Hydra tiered solution running on the mainnet
- Launched the first Hydra node compatible with the mainnet with the goal of increasing scalability.
- Hydra Head is a major milestone towards faster transactions on the Cardano blockchain.
- Cardano’s native ADA token has gained nearly 2% since the Hydra launch was announced.
Layer 1 blockchain network Cardano has announced the release of Hydra Head (version 0.10.0), a Layer 2 compliant scaling solution for the mainnet that aims to boost transaction speed on the network by increasing throughput and reducing latency. The scaling tool is active on the Cardano mainnet.
Cardano developer Sebastian Nagel recently took to Twitter to share the latest developments. According to Nagel, the release of the first mainnet-compatible version of the Hydra node came months after the benchmark tool was shown on the Cardano mainnet. Recent accomplishments include resolving a host of other issues such as updating dependencies and fixing computational flow in Hydra.
According to the Github repository tweeted by Nagel, the Cardano developers have also updated the API to accommodate the first round of user requests. The API client is now allowed to control the output of the server, which includes a configurable transaction format and a configurable history closure.
The next order of business for Cardano developers is to work on upcoming elements of the blockchain roadmap. According to Hydra Head’s roadmap posted on Github, the next goals described in version 0.11.0 are support for timed transactions, commits from external wallets, and network message authentication. Later scheduled targets include Hydra node scripts and protocol updates along with building and deploying Hydra head explorer.
Data from CoinMarketCap shows that Caradno’s native ADA token has gained nearly 4% since announcing the launch of Hydra Head. At the time of writing, ADA was trading at $0.365. With a market capitalization of $12.7 billion, ADA is currently the seventh largest cryptocurrency in the world. Its daily turnover was $266 million.
