Derwin James is a strong and violent man.
The Los Angeles Chargers Aman added a bit of professional wrestling to Amazon Prime’s first “Thursday Nights Football” series when he faced fellow All-Pro, Kansas City Chiefs head Travis Kelsey, on the goal line.
Late in the third quarter, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes escaped a collapsed pocket and rushed to find Kelsey in the Chargers’ 10-yard line. Once he had the ball in his hands, it was hard to see Kelsey stop making it to the end zone, especially when he shook two Chargers defenders after being caught.
Then James stepped into the end zone, Kelchi, who weighs 260 lbs And they beat him to the ground like a sack of potatoes:
The replay makes the play seem even more brutal:
Fortunately for the Chiefs, the officials ruled that Kelsey lost control of the ball on contact with the ground, allowing them to avoid costly red-zone confusion. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, they would fail to score any touchdowns in the next three plays, forcing them to settle for a game-related field goal.
James’ play ended up saving his team by four points and taking out more than a few wrestling fans among the NFL viewers:
That was the end of good, though, as Justin Herbert’s pick-six on the next drive put the game back into the Chiefs’ hands. The Charger flirted to return, but they failed in the end 27-24.
The 17th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, James has been one of the NFL’s top safety guards since stepping onto the field. He previously had to miss nearly two seasons with a broken foot and a meniscus tear, but he earned an All-Pro first team honor in the two healthy seasons he had.
Reaching one of the best tight ends in NFL history with a spine tool is one way to increase this pose.
