Pernell Harder is in doubt for Chelsea, after she withdrew from the starting line-up due to injury during the warm-up period before her team’s defeat by Liverpool. Emma Hayes explained that Harder was working on the turf on Friday, but her preparation for Sunday’s game won’t be known until Saturday.

Gareth Taylor confirmed that his team is expected to be the same as it was last week, defender Alana Kennedy, who may be in contention for a comeback after missing Aston Villa.

Chelsea (3-4-3): Mosovitch. Bright, Erickson, Buchanan; Charles, Cuthbert; Fleming, Ritten; Kirby, Kerr, James.

Manchester City (4-3-3): Roebuck. Morgan, Houghton; Greenwood, Stokes; Alexandre, Coombs, Fowler; Kelly, Shaw, Hemp.

Both teams have had difficult starts to the season, but it is Chelsea who are expected to recover faster, given that City are going through a transitional period after overhauling the squad in the summer.

City’s top three remain among the league’s best, but if Chelsea can stifle service for them and press high – as Villa had such bliss last weekend – the Blues must collect their first three points of the season.

Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Manchester City
