Looking forward: Chevrolet has unveiled the world’s first electric Corvette, a plug-in hybrid featuring a 6.2-liter LT2 small-block V8 that works in conjunction with an electric motor to provide additional power to pavement through the front wheels.
The Corvette E-Ray’s LT2 gas-powered engine delivers 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque to the rear axle while the electric motor adds an additional 160 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque up front via a 1.9-kWh battery pack. Combined, you get a 655-horsepower all-wheel-drive Corvette that can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds and cross the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds. embarrassed.
It is the fastest production Corvette in history.
Other highlights include standard Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, Magnetic Ride Control with three distinct suspension settings, a lightweight 12-volt lithium-ion battery to power the LT2’s start/stop function and 20- and 21-inch staggered wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport. Season tires. Rear Tires 345/25ZR21 – Absolute Steam.
The E-Ray is not a hybrid in the traditional sense because there is no plug-in for its battery system. Instead, the battery is charged by regenerative energy from braking and yawing as well as during normal driving.
The latest Chevrolet model has two driver-operated electric modes. Stealth mode allows all-electric driving at speeds of up to 45 mph and is for situations where you don’t want to alert everyone to your presence, such as when entering or exiting your zone. The gas-powered engine automatically runs at speeds of 45 mph, or when the E-Ray’s battery runs out.
Under enthusiastic driving conditions, the electric motor is mainly used to enhance grip and improve performance.
The new Corvette will also be highly customizable. Chevrolet offers 14 exterior color choices, four aluminum finishes, a body-length stripe package, seven interior colors, three seating options, and plenty of optional carbon fiber accents.
The 2024 Corvette E-Ray is set to be released later this year with a starting price of $104,295 for the 1LZ coupe or $111,295 for the 1LZ convertible.
