Clayton Kershaw He was back on the mound on Tuesday for his first outing Los Angeles Dodgers since The death of his mother, Marianne on saturday.
The outing was short for three-time Cy Young winner. He pitched four innings against the Minnesota Twins, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven. He left the game after 90 pitches and lost as the Twins went on to win 5-1.
Kershaw chose to play in his scheduled slot in the rotation three days after his mother’s death. He did not address the subject matter. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Monday that Kershaw’s plan to pitch.
“he is fine” Roberts Reporters. “I am sure that this is a day on which he has a heavy heart. But as far as I understand, it will start on Tuesday.”
Kershaw has the option to go to the bereavement list after Tuesday’s game. Kershaw’s wife, Ellen, spoke on Saturday about what Marian means to Kershaw and his development as a baseball player.

At 35 years old, Kershaw remains one of baseball’s best pitchers. He entered the starting Tuesday sporting a 2.36 ERA and 0.946 WHIP with 56 strikeouts and 10 walks in 49 2/3 innings pitched.
