Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is seen in the 1957 photo of the Little Rock Nine Protests

Before his team’s Thanksgiving game with the Giants, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was in the news Wednesday after a photo surfaced from his past showing his connection to one of the first public school mergers in his home state of Arkansas.

The photo – taken on September 9, 1957, at North Little Rock High when Jones was 14 years old – shows a A group of white students blocking the entrance and yelling at six black students as they tried to enter.

Jones said he went there as a “nosy thing”, with no intention of harassing black students. He also said that he did not realize at the time how important it was.

Jones said, “I don’t know that I or anyone would have expected or had the background to know … what was involved”, Per Dave Maraniss and Sally Jenkins Washington Post. “It was something more intriguing.”
