David Moyes insists new signings can make a difference for West Ham

David Moyes has defended West Ham United’s summer signings to make a difference with the Hammers this season, but insists they need “time” to do so.

West Ham have been incredibly active during the summer, paying £163m on the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Gianluca Scamaca and Nayef Aguerd – the latter of which will be out for a long time through injury.

Talk to the press before hammersIn the Premier League clash with Everton on Sunday, Moyes discussed the depth of the squad he now has at his disposal.

He said, “That’s exactly what we were looking for. We probably haven’t had that for the past two years, or certainly not to the same extent.”

“But what we’ve always had here at West Ham is a great team spirit, a fantastic group of committed players. We have a much stronger competition. However, to bring in eight or nine players and try to house them really quickly is not easy.

“I think the players we brought in will make a difference and just need a little time.

“But we need to try to collect points in the Premier League. We’ve shown better signals with our performances against Tottenham and Chelsea recently. We have competition, we need it; if we’re going to try to challenge the boys at the top again, we’re going to have to get these players to play at their best.”

“If you don’t play well, you won’t find yourself in the team.”
