Emile Smith Rowe “desperately” acknowledged the Arsenal role

Emile Smith Rowe has admitted he is “desperate” to get back into the Arsenal starting line-up after a season spent largely on the sidelines.

The 22-year-old missed around four months into the season while recovering from hip surgery and returned to find Arsenal top of the Premier League table.

As a result, Smith Rowe appeared in just four Premier League matches in 2023, with three of those matches lasting less than ten minutes. It was his only start of any kind since returning to fitness on Saturday for the England Under-21s in a 4-0 win over France.

After the match, Smith Rowe threw his full support behind him ArsenalTitle charge But he admitted it was hard to force her to watch from the sidelines.

“I am really desperate [to play] To be honest,” he said. “The team is doing really well and it’s obviously something I want to be a part of. I work hard every day. Coming here and getting the minutes I really need is really good for me to take back.”

“I’ve never really been in this position before, I’ve been left out a lot. But I’m just trying to work as hard as I can, to train as much as I can.

“I know the team is on fire and they’re doing a really good job. It’s been really tough to deal with and manage. But everyone at the club has helped me on and off the field. It’s family at Arsenal, all the boys have been helping me too.”

Smith Rowe first suffered a groin injury when he was 18 and has continued to suffer since then, ultimately leading to the decision to go under the knife earlier this season.

“I was really low at first,” added Smith-Rowe. “I’ve never had surgery before.

“I was so worried, I didn’t know what was going to happen, I didn’t know if I was going to be the same after the surgery. So it was very difficult to deal with it. I have my family around me helping me every day. Everyone was helping me deal with it. But it was Really hard and I’ve never felt it before.”
