Epic Games brings Unreal Engine 5.1 graphic fidelity to Fortnite

The team also made the switch from Temporal Anti-Aliasing to Temporal Ultra Resolution that tolerates frame rate. This feature enables “high quality visuals at a high frame rate.”

If you’ve played Fortnite, you can see the noticeable difference Unreal 5 brings to the game in the screenshots throughout this article. The finely reflective water is particularly impressive. And the lighting is appropriately scattered so that the shaded areas receive the right amount of light.

While the changes are available on all current-generation platforms, including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, PC users – as always – have the most control over graphical fidelity. The typical presets are there, but PC users can get nitty-gritty with graphics settings that turn individual elements on and off as desired. There is also a slider to quickly adjust the resolution to a wide level.

For best results, Epic says, gamers should have a GeForce RTX 2080 or Radeon RX 5700 or later. They also need the latest graphics drivers and DirectX 12. The latest Windows 10 or 11 versions are also recommended.

The only thing a console owner has to worry about is that they have locked the 120fps mode if they are using it. Otherwise, the game will not implement the new fidelity features. To change this setting, go to Video-> Graphics-> 120 FPS Mode, and make sure it reads “off”.

It’s worth noting that these changes are only available on Battle Royale Island. Save the World and Creative Mode are not supported. This is particularly bad news for content creators because the whole point of Creative is to show you what you can create. However, both modes benefit from temporary super resolution.
