Europa League and Europa League Round: 9/22/15


Aspiring clubs across Europe were in action on Thursday night with the Europa League and European Conference League back on our screens.

Manchester United traveled to Moldova to face Sherif Tiraspol, while West Ham made a trip to Scandinavia in Europe’s third tier.

Here are the results of both competitions in the second round of the group stage matches.

Roma reclaimed last week’s defeat to Ludogorets Razgrad to comfortably beat Finnish side HJK 3-0.

Jose Mourinho’s side received a boost in the 15th minute when Miro Tinho was sent off to drop Andrea Belotti as another defender.

However, it took Paulo Dybala’s arrival to break the deadlock, as the Argentine striker netted the net a minute after his lead in the first half. Lorenzo Pellegrini scored two goals for Roma in the 49th minute, before new player Andrea Belotti scored his first goal for the club.

Sherif Tiraspol 0-2 Manchester United

Manchester United earned their first Europa League point of the season when Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo scored in a 2-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol.

Sancho masterfully controlled Christian Eriksen’s pass and hit the net during the first half before Ronaldo added another penalty kick, his first goal of the season and first ever in the Europa League.

Silkeborg 2-3 West Ham

West Ham overcame an early panic to claim a comfortable victory in their confrontation with Denmark’s Silkeborg.

Kasper Kosk gave the hosts the lead in the fifth minute by converting Lucas Engel’s cross, but Manuel Lanzini equalized with a penalty kick after Maxwell Cornet fell under the challenge of Tobias Salquist.

The Hammers were up front midway through the first half when Gianluca Scamaca fired from 20 yards and it was 3-1 shortly after when Craig Dawson took a corner kick from Aaron Cresswell.

Silkeborg pulled one back in the second half as Soren Tungsted hit the net after a save by Alphonse Areola, but West Ham maintained two wins from two.
