For the last time this season, home advantage will be a factor in the FA Cup before the competition approaches the semi-finals at Wembley.
Sunday will see the last three quarter-final matches with up to three teams from outside the Premier League vying for a place in the quarter-finals. Have your FA Cup bingo cards at the ready as David prepares his slingshot, model books fly out from the many windows and the contest’s inherent magic gets plenty of air time.
Here’s everything you need to know about Sunday’s games — none of which, of course, are easy games.
For the first time in eight years, at least one side of the Championship will appear in the Premier League FA cup semi final. However, with both clubs entering the top six in the league as the regular season enters its final nine matches, Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers may not mind focusing on getting back into the top flight at the cost of finishing the cup run.
The Blades may face financial “cuts, cuts, cuts” – as manager Paul Heckingbottom puts it – but history is on their side. Blackburn haven’t beaten Sheffield United at Bramall Lane since Alan Shearer scored twice to turn Andy Scott’s opener in 1994 – only two outfielders who had featured for Blackburn that season were alive at the time.

Grimsby Town get the chance to write the club’s name indelibly into folklore at the FA Cup in front of 5,000 fish-waving inflatable football fans this weekend. Already, the Mariners became the fifth Division IV team in the history of the competition to have reached the quarter-finals. However, Oxford United (1964), Colchester United (1971), Bradford City (1976) and Cambridge United (1990) all wrapped up their fairy tales before the semi-finals.
Brighton, who sit 76 places above Grimsby and have real aspirations for European football next season, don’t look like a friendly host. Although Roberto De Zerbi has insisted his side are in a “tough game” and it would be a “huge mistake” to underestimate the Mariners as Brighton aim to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 1983.
