Forspoken requires 150GB and needs a GTX 3070 for 1440p 30fps

Briefly: The newly revealed Forspoken system requirements are roughly in line with recent and upcoming AAA games that no longer support PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The ever-popular GTX 1060 gets stuck in the minimum specs, but new titles are increasingly recommending cards like the RTX 2070 and 3070.

Square Enix open Final system requirements for this week’s upcoming open-world action RPG Forspoken. PlayStation 5 owners may also want to give the demo another spin, as the publisher has just patched it.

Forspoken is another sign that PC system requirements are setting a new standard. Many of the big names launched last year list the GTX 1060 – Steam’s second The most popular GPU in December – as the recommended graphics card.

Forspoken lists it as a minimum requirement to play 720p 30fps. Other games like backthe dead space remake, A Plague Tale: RequiemAnd Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Also list GTX 1060, 970, or 1070 under minimum requirements, with the 2070 usually appearing among recommended. Perhaps most surprisingly, Forspoken recommends an RTX 3070 or AMD RX 6700 XT for 1440p 30fps playback. Square Enix suggests a 4080 or 6800 XT for 4K gaming at 60fps with ultra settings.

System memory requirements have also gone up recently. Forspoken, such as Dead Space, Requiem, and Returnal require 16GB. Square Enix’s new title recommends 24GB, but its Ultra spec suggests 32GB.

Another worrying trend is gaming pushing storage requirements beyond triple-digit gigabytes, and Forspoken is no exception. Some games like Dead Space and Returnal stick to a relatively reasonable size of 50 or 60GB, but Forspoken it needs a whopping 150GB!

Many will probably be interested in the game as it will be the first PC title to use the Microsoft DirectStorage API. The new feature should reduce loading times to levels seen in PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series console games for Windows 11 users using NVMe SSDs. Square Enix claims that Forspoken can load new scenes in about 1 second in SSDs of up to 5Gbps, which means either PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 drives.

Square Enix has also confirmed PC-specific features such as 32:9 ultra wide screen (not during cut scenes), HDR, and FSR 2.0. Although the company did not mention DLSS, games that include FSR 2.0 tend to receive mods that add DLSS since the work that goes into the two upgrade solutions is similar, Rule being a modern example.

PS5 demo only received This week’s update adds button mapping, fixes some technical issues, and adjusts text size in some places. Forspoken launches on PlayStation 5 and PC on January 24th.
