Georgia championship team declines invitation from the White House

Georgia The National Football League team declines an invitation to visit the White House.

According to a statement from the Georgia Athletic Association on Tuesday, the Bulldogs will not be able to attend the June 12 event along with other college teams at the White House. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden called the event “College Athlete’s Day.”

The statement from Georgia says the team’s schedule conflicts with the proposed date provided in an invitation received earlier this month.

“On May 3, the University of Georgia first received an invitation to the Bulldogs football team to visit the White House on June 12,” the statement read. “Unfortunately, the proposed date is not possible due to the student-athlete calendar and time of year. However, we appreciate the invitation and look forward to other opportunities for Georgia teams moving forward.”

Georgia did not provide more details about the conflict schedule.

Some professional league teams, including the 2021 Atlanta Braves, have made visits to the White House during the Biden administration. This year’s NCAA men’s and women’s basketball teams from Connecticut and Louisiana, respectively, are scheduled to visit the White House on May 26.
