- Google Search no longer displays play buttons on podcasts linked to Google Podcasts.
- The ability to listen to podcasts directly from the search results is now gone.
- The Google Podcasts app hasn’t been updated in months.
Google is notorious for killing many of its products. In fact, she’s closing one today – stadia. And it looks like Google Podcasts could soon go in the same direction.
Google introduced the Google Podcasts app back in 2018. The cool thing about the app is that it allowed listeners to search and listen to individual podcast episodes right from the search. It also allows you to catch up on the same episode on different devices from the app or search.
No matter how often you use it, Google seems to have stopped updating the app in 2021 shortly after YouTube began focusing on enhancing the podcasting experience, as I previously reported. bloomberg.
According to a new report from BudnewsNow, it appears that the company has removed Google Podcasts from its search results.
The play buttons associated with the Google Podcast app in search are gone, so listeners can no longer listen to podcasts directly from their results. So if you’re looking for a podcast in the search now, you’ll only find links to other reviews and platforms.
A Google spokesperson responded to the port saying that it was working “as intended”. This means that removing the power buttons was an intentional move by the company. Google did not explain the decision, but did provide this statement:
YouTube and Google Podcasts serve different needs. Both serve today’s podcast listeners and we’re not changing that now. We have nothing more to share at this time.
For now, it appears that Google Podcasts is still safe, but that’s not a good sign of the platform’s fate.
