It’s Mother’s Day, which means two things to me. First, I’ll be treated to the onslaught of homemade cards, kisses, and semi-burnt breakfast foods. And second, I’ll hide in a closet for at least 15 minutes so I can handle a little shopping spree. We all know that moms give the best gifts and every year, I am the lucky recipient of my own gift knack. This year, I know exactly what I’m getting—a new piece (or two) to add to my capsule wardrobe of cool, not-so-boring neutrals.
Since I’m going to waste time in that closet (I can hear “mooooo-ooooom” now), I’m going straight to EVEREVE Mother’s Day Sale This happens for one day only, May 14th. EVEREVE is a new favorite among our editors for literally everything. Clothing, shoes and accessories from some of our favorite brands like AGOLDE, Splendid, Citizens of Humanity, Dolce Vita, Frame, Free People, Nation LTD and more – all in one place. This is called simplifying our shopping experience and it speaks my native language.
We partnered with EVEREVE to design a wardrobe that’s super neutral, hard-working, and (obviously) chic. These are your heavy hitters. You go to pieces. Your own fashion foundation to build from. We’re tired of the lie that neutrals are boring. We’re definitely not color-averse here, but we’re also unapologetic about the classic, minimalist look consisting of a white T-shirt and perfect-fit jeans. Interested in adding color? all of that. Make it a red lip or a shoe-pop moment — or keep it quiet and serene. Either way, there is nothing boring about this collection.
How to build a neutral capsule wardrobe
A capsule wardrobe is a collection of quality tops, bottoms, dresses, rompers, shoes and accessories that can be paired together for an endless amount of outfits. It aims to bring comfort and pleasure to wear. The trick is to build a group that not only plays well together but ultimately feels and feels like you.
The downside to building a deck is that it takes time and resources – it can seem like a big investment up front. But that’s exactly what it is: an investment. Collecting pieces made from high-quality fabrics and materials in classic shapes and patterns means you remove yourself from the fast-fashion hamster wheel. You’ll be wearing these pieces for longer, and are guaranteed to feel better in them, too. Plus, you’ll actually save money in the long run. Here’s how to get started.
Step One: Shop your wardrobe
It’s time to cleanse. Take a look at all the clothes, shoes and accessories you already own. We all have our closet cleaning regimens, but if you need a head start, here it is 10 things to remove from your closet right now. Once you’ve made a space, do the hard work of determining what you really love and want to keep. As for your daily cut, here’s a good question to ask yourself: Will I wear it today?
Step Two: Determine what you’re missing
Is it easy to dress for work but struggle with date night attire? Do you hang out in stained shirts and old sweats? Have your basics taken a beating? Use the starter kit below to find the gaps in your wardrobe.
