Hugo Lloris withdraws from France squad due to thigh injury

France captain Hugo Lloris withdrew from the France squad next September and now faces a race against time to be fit for Tottenham’s north London derby at Arsenal.

The 35-year-old is believed to have sustained a thigh injury in Tottenham’s 6-2 win over Leicester City on Saturday night and will now miss France’s next Nations League matches. He was replaced on the team by 23-year-old Alban Lafont from Nantes.

Lloris’ injury comes at a bad time for both France and Tottenham. The national team led by Didier Deschamps is at risk of relegation from the Nations League A after collecting two points from its first four matches. He is expected to be replaced in the starting lineup by Milan’s Mike Minnan.

At the club level, Tottenham, led by Antonio Conte, will resume their domestic matches on October 1 with a short trip to rivals Arsenal. Lloris hasn’t missed the North London derby since the 2018/19 season when he was replaced by Paulo Gazzaniga in the UEFA Cup quarter-final – where Tottenham won 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

should loris Not going back in time for the derby, Fraser-Forster will be in line to make his debut for Spurs after his summer arrival from Southampton.

Forster has produced many memorable Saints performances against Arsenal over the years, most notably a superb display in a 1-0 win back in March which partially helped Spurs beat their rivals to fourth place.
