Manchester United are keeping a close eye on winger Kirsty Hanson’s impressive performances while on loan at WSL club Aston Villa.
Formerly a key player for United – as highlighted by the WSL Player of the Month award in October 2019 – Hanson struggled to get match time last season. This led to a loan move to Villa at the start of the campaign and they are thriving again.
The Scotland international, who remains under contract with United until 2024 with an option until 2025, reached seven assists in the WSL this season in her last game – a 2-1 win over West Ham. This ties her to Ella Ton and Una Batley, with only Chelsea player Guru Ritten (9) having more.
Hanson’s recent style was also recognized with a nomination for the February edition of the PFA Vertu Motors WSL Player of the Month award.
Back at her parent club, manager Charlotte Healy has been tasked with keeping tabs on all United players on loan, which also includes Cary Jones at Leicester and Ivana Ferreira Fosu at Bayer Leverkusen.
‘Kirky’, as Hanson is affectionately known, was impressive and the fact that she was constantly proving herself in numbers to rival the best in the league would only strengthen her case for reintegration at United, where she was initially a young team player at the center of excellence.
Having fallen to the sidelines, the 24-year-old was the victim of a renewed competition for attacking places last summer when four new strikers arrived in a single transfer window. The reason for her loan was to ensure the gentle playing time unavailable at Manchester.
With the team as it is and united Trying to get into the Champions League for the first time, manager Mark Skinner lamentably admits that “not everyone can play”.
“When you have someone as young and promising as Kirky, you want her to go and play the minutes — she gets those minutes.” [at Villa]explained the United boss.
“The whole reason I sent Kirky out on loan was to get a point of her playing consistent games again. Our ability to give her consistent minutes at her age just wasn’t there. I’m really happy with her progress. But I’m not surprised.” [by it]. “
