Mason Rudolph surprisingly returns to the Steelers with a new deal


In a bit of a twist, Mason Rudolph is said to be dating Pittsburgh Steelers.

The backup quarterback is expected to re-sign with the Steelers, According to multiple reports. Rudolph, 27, is still a free agent after two months out of free agency.

The Steelers selected Rudolph in the third round of the 2018 draft as a backup and potential successor to Ben Roethlisberger. He has since appeared in 17 games with Pittsburgh including 10 starts. But he didn’t win the starting job after Roethlisberger retired in 2022. In fact, he didn’t win the backup role.

Steelers drafted Kenny Beckett In the first round in 2022 and previously signed Chicago Bears Writer Mitchell Trubisky is in the same offseason. Trubisky won and eventually ceded the starting role to Pickett, who would keep the starting job next season.

Rudolph was relegated to the third string. He was not happy about it and thought he deserved more first-team work in training camp.

“I think he’s kind of in the rearview mirror now,” Rudolph said last September after his demotion. In the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I would have liked to have more first-team representatives, but decisions are made. I’m moving forward.

“Listen, I’m a much better player than I was from ‘1 to ‘5. I’m confident and happy with myself when I got the reps. I’ll do whatever I’m going to do. Other than that, I think I’ll kind of keep the clipboard.”

He is said to be back now, as he is supposed to once again be connected to the third-string signals again. Pickett has an underhanded grip on the starting role, while Trubisky lingers PittsburghBackup. Neither the Steelers nor Rudolph addressed the reports.

For his career, Rudolph completed 61.5% of his passes for 2,366 yards with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Steelers are 5-4-1 in games started by Rudolph.
