Elon Musk recently took to Twitter to announce that Twitter will be relaunching Twitter Blue and its verification program next Friday i.e. December 2nd. Musk claims that going forward, there will be three types of tags or verification badges — a gold one, a gray one and a blue one.

Musk responded to a Twitter user who apologized for the delay in getting the service back up and running and stated that the company was “temporarily” launching the verification service on December 2. Twitter will use different colored checkmarks to differentiate between three types of accounts, according to the platform’s new owner.

According to Musk’s tweet, the gold badge will be for businesses and other organizations, while the gray check will be reserved for government agencies. The current blue tick will be reserved for individuals, whether they are celebrities or not.

Explaining how a blue tick will work for individuals, Musk said that all verified individuals will have the same blue check, and it’s difficult to say exactly what is “marked,” because of its subjective scope. Individuals may use secondary logos or stickers to show their affiliation with a prominent organization. Musk also announced that Twitter will put up a more detailed explanation about the new verified badges, sometime in the next week.

Musk also announced that going forward, all verified accounts will be manually authenticated by a team at Twitter, before the check is allocated to them and the check appears on their platform.

Musk insists on charging users a fixed monthly fee for certain privileges they enjoy.
