The Artemis program deal is the latest in SpaceX and NASA’s relationship.
SpaceX is going to the moon at least one more time. Last week, NASA formalized a deal with the company that will send astronauts to the lunar surface by the end of the decade. This mission will be the second of its kind undertaken by SpaceX. Both assistants are part of NASA’s Artemis program.
Last year, the US space agency awarded SpaceX the contract for Participation in the lunar expedition. It’s our first real trip to the Moon since Apollo 17 brought Gene Cernan and Ronald Evans to the surface of Earth’s only natural satellite. It is said that SpaceX will use a modified version of the Starship spacecraft for the flight.
The first mission in the Artemis program Launched this week. However, there were no astronauts aboard the SLS rocket, which lifted toward the Moon on Thursday. The robotic spacecraft Artemis I will take a trip over the Moon to test critical technology to bring humans back there. Artemis II, scheduled for 2024, will have a crew on board for another flyby.
Then in 2025, Artemis III will land on the moon with astronauts on board. Marking the return of mankind to extraterrestrial planets for the first time in more than half a century. And if this trend continues, SpaceX will be the primary means of getting them there.
