Paint.net started as a Microsoft Paint The replacement was written using the .NET framework, and has since become a comprehensive and powerful graphics editor. Now, he’s reached the next chapter with version 5.0.

The first alpha testing version of Paint.NET 5.0 is now available, and it comes with many improvements and additions that make the program even more powerful than before. Some of the additions include pressure sensitivity, which helps you draw natural-looking strokes if you have a tablet or compatible drawing device, and most in-program tweaks and effects are now GPU-accelerated, improving performance.

Other additions include new effects, new mods, and new effects, including a new bokeh effect. Of course, this is the first alpha release, so we’ll likely see a lot of new additions and improvements as the update gets closer to a stable phase. Even this initial list of changes and improvements is quite extensive, so be sure to read the entire original post if you’re interested in giving it a try.

If you want to give this alpha a go, make sure you’re using Windows 10 or Windows 11 64-bit — version 5.0 removes support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, as well as support for 32-bit Windows entirely.
