Philadelphia Union has linked club captain Alejandro Bedoya with a one-year contract extension until 2023 MLS season.
Bedoya’s current deal was due to expire at the end of the current campaign, at which time he would have been eligible for free agency.
The 35-year-old midfielder has been with Al Ittihad since 2016, joining him as a designated player from French League 1 Nantes side. During that time, Bedoya scored 25 goals and provided 24 assists in 206 matches in all competitions.
Bedoya has been particularly prolific this season with six goals and six assists.
“Alejandro embodies the spirit and passion of this team and this city. His mentality and leadership have had a huge impact on the youthful core that has been so successful for us in the past few seasons, and he is now having one of his best seasons,” said Ernst Tanner, federation sporting director, in a club press release.
