Researchers have discovered a new molecular structure of bubble flow

The process of star formation interacts with the surrounding environment and produces dynamic, observable phenomena, such as outflows and bubbles, collectively known as stellar feedback. As one of the primary sources of energy injection into the birth cloud, this feedback is essential for the evolution of the interstellar medium.


An international team led by Dr Li Di of the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC) made observations of carbon monoxide emissions in the molecular clouds of Taurus using the Institute of Radio Astronomy in the 30-meter (IRAM) millimeter scale. The James Clerk Maxwell Telescope and Telescope (JCMT). They identified a new molecular bubble in the carbon monoxide signal from both telescopes.

The study has been published in Astrophysical Journal On the 7th of February.

“Through joint analysis with the Quintuple Radio Astronomical Observatory (FCRAO) Survey of the Taurus Molecular Cloud, we found an outflow located at the center of the molecular bubble,” said Duan Yan, PhD. Candidate from NAOC and first author of the study.

Based on the Gaia EDR3 data, the researchers suggested that a pair of T Tauri Binary stars It may have produced the molecular bubble 70,000 years ago. One similar case of a molecular bubble coexisting with an outflow has been previously reported (in Orion A).

This finding supports the molecular common origin bubbles and flows. It enhances our understanding of how astral feedback works molecular clouds. Revealing the structure of the bubble flow provides new observational evidence for the effects of T Tauri stars on the interstellar medium.
