If you’re anything like me, winter tends to do a number on you. By the time spring rolls around, I ache for more time outside (without being bundled up in layers up to my eyeballs), I look forward to more social outings, and I crave to open the windows and welcome some fresh air into my home.
Perhaps you, my friend, feel the same way. Perhaps you, too, are aching for a seasonal shift—within yourself, your relationships, your routines, and your habits house.
Today I’m sharing eight spring home decor ideas that will give your space a seasonal update.
Budget-friendly is the name of the game here, as some ideas call for a minimum budget and others require a bit of creativity. Go ahead, try one or two of them for yourself!

1. Replace a pair of textiles.
Switching up a fabric or two is one way to make a difference as we move into spring, both in terms of a visual change and increased comfort in warmer weather.
Lightweight fabrics like linen and cotton will be your spring and summer friends, and there’s no shortage of ideas on how to update your textiles for the season. Here are some suggestions:
- Replace decorative pillows in heavy fabrics such as velvet and wool with lighter fabrics such as linen or cotton. This pillow is $30 from Target It’s a great choice!
- Swap out thick, opaque curtains for curtains with lighter muslin fabrics (ideal for letting in cool summer breezes).
- Place a linen throw over an existing sofa or chair.
- Replace your heavy comforter with a lighter weight comforter or duvet.
2. Say it with me: add plants!
Ah, the plants. We love them here at W&D, for the way they look and for the fun and stress relief that comes from watching them thrive. Spring marks the beginning of the growing season for these indoor beauties, so I’d say this is also a perfect time to add another plant friend (or a few) to your home.
If you’re as good at plants as they are, consider giving your current brood a refresh by making a switch Put them inside your home (according to their lighting needs, of course) or Repotting them in a new planterif they are in the market for fresh soil and extra room to grow.
3. Change the rug (rug).
rug It has the power to completely change the look of your room in the way it frames the space. While I’m by no means suggesting you replace every rug in your home with a change every season, there are a couple of ways you can use rugs to make an impact as we head into spring:
- Switch your rugs from one room to another, try a living room rug in the bedroom and vice versa. There’s no financial commitment required here — just a few drops of sweat likely to accumulate from all that moving furniture.
- If you have a patterned rug in a space and you’re craving something simpler, spring might be the time to swap it out for a versatile neutral option like a sisal or jute rug.
- Consider removing the rug completely for the warmer months ahead. (You can always redo them if you change your mind!) Or, if you have layered carpeting in a particular room, consider removing the top carpet and letting the bottom one shine on its own.
4. Add a piece of art.

5. Update your portal.
As the seasons change—especially for those of us who live in places with four distinct seasons—so does Our needs for the entrance. Coat racks become less important for hanging bulky winter clothes, thick doormats are no longer needed to collect salty and snowy boots when we walk through the door, and hat and glove collection boxes become less important.
There’s no need to keep this winter relic in the entryway all spring and summer. Instead, store winter coats and accessories out of sight and out of mind and trade them in for light jackets, baseball caps, and an umbrella or two for the inevitable rainy days. 6. Bring in a colorful accent piece.
While winter may be known for its moody, jewel-toned colors, spring is known for its pastel hues, and the summer months that follow for their bright, colorful accents. 7. Bring some flowers into the mix.
You knew I wasn’t going to mention nor talk about spring home decor flowers, right? right. Flowers in the spring are like peanut butter to jelly and I personally wouldn’t have them any other way.
There are a couple of tried and true ways to bring these beauties into your home, and I can assure you it doesn’t have to be an expensive endeavor if you don’t want to.
- Try your hand at putting together your hand ranking. There really isn’t a right or wrong way to do this, but remember, variety is your friend here! Play with different heights, flower types, and fillers until you create something you like.
- Want more longevity from your florals? I hear you. If so, consider dried flowers for your friend. Buy them online from Shop like Afloral or Dry it yourself easily.

8. Buy anything new! Instead, move some décor pieces from one place to another.
I live in the land of budget-conscious buying decisions, as I think many of you do too. And while I’m happy to bring in new pieces every once in a while, it’s safe to say that decor doesn’t always fit into my budget on any given month. Enter: the realm of rearranging.
Move an existing piece of art from one room to another. Take a lamp that claims to inhabit your living room and move it into your bedroom for a change. Try placing a stack of books in a new place for you, whether on a different piece of furniture or on the floor with a plant on top.
Even if nothing else from this list seems appropriate for your home, I encourage you to try this last idea. whatever you do, I listen with the rearrangement process. Sometimes a slight change in positioning provides the updated perspective we’ve been looking for all along.
