It took 14 years Texas Tech lovers To enjoy the moment of defeating their in-state rival, the #22 Texas, at AT&T Jones Stadium.
But after the Red Raiders’ 37-34 overtime win over Longhorns on Saturday, fans embraced the moment and stormed the field after Trey Wolff scored a 20-yard field goal for Texas Tech.
From a historical standpoint, Texas Tech’s win over Texas marked the first time the Red Raiders had defeated the Longhorns at home since landing game-winning Michael Crabtree in 2008.
Texas star running back Bijan Robinson missed the ball in the first game of overtime, the game-changing game that allowed the Red Raiders to collect five games and 23 yards capped by three points for Wolff.
But even before Robinson’s error, the Longhorns blew up a 14-point lead in the second half, and the Red Raiders turned fourth on five of their seven winning goals. And it’s possible that no one was more proud of the Red Raiders than Former Texas Tech Star and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Texas Tech (3-1) scored its third win of the first season for head coach Joey McGuire and its second win over a top 25 opponent this season. The Red Raiders will go on the road next Saturday to face Kansas State.
