The future of CFP expansion is in the hands of Rose Bowl

Rose Bowl around the clock.

The executive board of the CFP Chiefs does not plan to guarantee the Rose Bowl game it requested for an exclusive Jan. 1 window in future iterations of an expanded playoff game, sources say, and they have given a deadline for the sport’s oldest game.

Thought to be the last hurdle to expanding the playoffs early on, the Rose Bowl and its officials are given a few days to make what could be a monumental decision for the future of college football. The Rose Bowl could either agree to expand the playoffs as soon as possible by 2024, or delay the expansion to ’26.
