The new images show the Samsung 360-degree hinge that could come in the Fold 5

Flexible outdoor display model

  • Samsung revealed a prototype with a 360-degree foldable screen and a Waterdrop hinge at CES.
  • The new images show exactly what the prototypes can do.
  • It is believed that the prototypes could be used in the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5.

If there’s one thing that bothers consumers about foldable phones, it’s the screen crease. Samsung is working on a way to eliminate that wrinkle Once and for all it probably did it with its new prototype screen and hinge. Now we have new photos that show the technology in action.

Samsung came to CES 2023 with two product concepts: a “Flex In and Out” display and a new hinge. What makes the screen interesting is its ability to rotate 360 degrees, so in a foldable phone, the screen can be folded in or out. As for the hinge, its design allows for a more fluid shape – similar to a drop of water – when folded inward which results in the crease being noticeably less noticeable.

These prototypes were spotted at Samsung’s CES 2023 booth, but initially there was only one good photo of them. However, Samsung has shared some new images with the edge which shows the form factor and technology used.

The device shown in the images is not the Galaxy Z Fold, but it has a similar form factor. As we mentioned in our previous roundup, the hinge allows this device to be thinner than any foldable model, thanks to its ability to eliminate the hinge gap. It is also rumored that the joint can help reduce weight.

Flex In and Out display and waterdrop hinge are expected to be adopted by Samsung’s next foldable phone – Galaxy Z Fold 5.
