The 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro with 2TB of storage scored read speeds of 5,372MB/s and write speeds of 6,491MB/s in tests conducted by reviewers using Blackmagic disk benchmarking software. The 14-inch M1 Pro with 1TB of storage achieved a higher read speed at 5,797MB/s, but a much lower write speed at 5,321MB/s.

Normative data from the test by Macworld And Tom guide Both reported that the two new machines offered faster write speeds, compared to the previous generation, though with slightly slower read speeds. These read speeds are still decently fast—about as fast, if not faster, than a PCIe Gen 4 m.2 SSD for desktop computers—so it’s probably a good trade-off for what will likely result in better performance. And even if these reading speeds are still somewhat slower, most users won’t notice the difference in daily use.

Once you get your hands on one of the new MacBook Pro models, you can expect faster write speeds and an overall smoother experience — also thanks in part to the new and improved M2 silicon.
