Thomas Partey misses Ghana friendly after injury scare

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey withdrew from the Ghana squad to face Brazil on Friday amid fears of a possible injury.

The 29-year-old has played just four times for his club this season, with a groin problem limiting his participation, but he came back 78 minutes under his belt in a 3-0 win over Brentford before the international break.

The in-brilliant Barty set out once again on international duties with Ghana and had been directed to start Friday’s encounter with Brazil, only to be pulled from the squad at the last minute.

Local reports indicated that Barty complained of pain in his knee, which eventually led him to miss the starting lineup.

While there has been no official update on Barty’s status, Goal Journalist Charles Watts has a positive message for concern Arsenal fans.

“Good news as far as I know when it comes to Thomas Partey and this injury,” Watts told his YouTube channel. “It was just a completely precautionary measure. Apparently it was a problem with his knee.

“There was a report from Ghana and I saw it was a problem with his knee that he felt while warming up. The decision was just made not to risk it.

“Now I’ve spoken to people close to Thomas Partey today and they absolutely don’t think it was anything serious at all. He’s not coming back to Arsenal, he’s going to stay with Ghana by all accounts.

“They have another match coming up this week, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to play in it.

“Not because of the injury. It’s possible that the coach will use that match to look at some of the other players in his team ahead of the World Cup rather than… the guaranteed start.

“Overall, it looks relatively positive for Thomas Partey.

“It is clearly a matter of concern that he sensed something but it doesn’t look like anything that should keep him out of the Tottenham game after the international break.”
