Vox Editor-in-Chief Swati Sharma announced the promotion of Natalie Jennings to Managing Editor and Tanya Pai to the newly created role of Director of Newsroom Standards and Ethics. Vox’s Future Perfect Vert also welcomes Marina Bolotnikova as its new Staff Editor.

“Tania has always been a thoughtful voice in our newsroom, and we all regularly seek guidance on questions about ethics and standards. We are thrilled with this new role for her,” Sharma said. “Natalie has developed a keen eye for seeing problems before they arise, and is not shy about engaging with The tough questions, and they’ve already made their mark here in less than a year. We look forward to expanding her role to ensure that our staff as a whole is best placed to help our audience understand key news moments.

“Vox’s Future Perfect column continues to grow and addresses the big questions about the best ways to make change happen. We’re excited to bring on Marina so she can bring her diverse expertise to support our team.”

Previously, Jennings served as Vox’s political editor, directing its ambitious half-term coverage. She joined Vox earlier this year coming from The Washington Post, where she has covered three presidential campaigns and three administrations across multiple platforms, including as deputy White House and congressional editor and editor at Fix, the Post’s political analysis blog. In her new role, she will work alongside Managing Editor Nisha Sheetal to oversee the Managing Editors and Daily Coverage.

In addition to managing the Vox Style and Standards team, as Director of Newsroom Standards and Ethics, Pai will be responsible for the implementation and continued development of Vox’s policies and best practices for ethics and standards in our journalism. This includes fact-checking, copy editing, corrections, sourcing, disclosures, and more, across text, audio, video, and off-platform. She will also continue to serve as Editor-in-Chief Language please, a living resource for all journalists and storytellers seeking to carefully cover social, cultural, and identity issues. Pai has been with Vox since 2015.

In her new role as staff editor, Bolotnikova will be tasked with expanding independent productions, as well as providing editorial support to Future Perfect staff editors and writers. She wrote extensively on ideas, culture, and politics, with a particular focus on animal welfare and factory farming. Her work has appeared in Vox, The Guardian, The Intercept, and The New York Times.
