Wales predicted the squad against Iran

Wales started strongly in their first World Cup in 64 years by taking a point against the United States.

But that will count for nothing if they can’t back it up with a better result against Iran in their second match. Anything else leaves them in a huge uphill battle in the hunt for a place in the knockout rounds given that the toughest match of the group against England is still to come.

Here’s a look at the starting eleven Rob Page could pick Wells.

Joe Allen

GK: Wayne Hennessy – He made only one save against a USA team that didn’t exactly hit Wells’ goal with shots.

Centre-back: Chris Mepham – He was good on the ball in the first game when it came to short passes but was less accurate with longer passes.

Center back: Joe Rodon – He had hardly played for Rennes over the past month due to suspension and then illness, but he managed 90 minutes on Monday.

CB: Ben Davies – Has two attempts on goal and is a good threat from set pieces.

Right-back: Conor Roberts – This is already his second international tournament as a junior.

Name: Aaron Ramsey – He has a lot to prove after a disappointing few years at club level.

CM: Joe Morrell – The Portsmouth midfielder could break into the starting line-up if Ethan Ampadu is not fit enough to start after going off against United States of America.

Left-back: Neco Williams – He finds out that his grandfather died in the days leading up to the US game and he now plays in his memory.

RF: Gareth Bale – He continues to be a Welsh legend after scoring a late equalizer from the penalty spot, the first Welsh player to score in a World Cup match since Terry Medwin 64 years earlier.

ST: Keefer Moore – The giant forward didn’t start against the Americans but came off the bench and could benefit from Harry Wilson’s minor injury.

LF: Daniel James – He started the first match in a central role but is likely to hold onto his place for this match by moving to the left given Harry Wilson is a likely injury doubt.
