Charles Robinson: 49ers giving up 3 and 1/2 points against the Cowboys. This game has the chance to be just a crazy game. And I think it all really depends on — if Duck plays another game like he did against Tampa. I mean, it’s hard to believe this could happen against a San Francisco defense. And I don’t want to doubt Brooke Purdy, but again — I mean, that defensive front, you know. If there’s a misplay where he’s doing some — flipping the ball and getting it, I think it definitely has a chance of happening against those Cowboys.

Jory Epstein: If the Cowboys can look like they did Monday night on Sunday, they win. But to look like they did against the Buccaneers, they’re going to have to play a lot better because they’re up against a better team in the 49ers. I think the key to this game is definitely going to be like how clean a pocket the Duck can have, like the offensive line handling, and if it’s both, all of those will come. men for it. If Duck feels comfortable getting into that rhythm, continuing to use his legs a little bit to open up, and what they see on the court, I think that will be very helpful.

And then on defense, like, look, Micah Parsons started this year as Defensive Player of the Year. Then in the second half of the season, he got hit really hard. His body isn’t really built for an edge-rushing stance that he plays with as much as an off-the-ball linebacker. And we were talking to him about it in the locker room last week. I think he’s playing at around 245. And if he stays at the end of the line, he really should get it closer to 255, he thinks.

Obviously, some guys are planning it more than that. And how much he will be able to impress Brooke Purdy. Also if Purdy can get the ball so quickly to McCaffreys and Debus and all that in the world, does she need Mika to help defend that?

I think one of the players who had the best game in the Cowboys-Niners game was Leighton Vander Esch. Just like reading what Shanahan’s crime was doing. And so, after Leighton came back healthy, which they brought back on Monday night, and he played really well. thats good.

And then another thing I will say is a big glaring case that we thought would hurt the Cowboys vs. the Bucs that I don’t think ultimately did was their secondary. All question marks, I’ve lost two running backs, Anthony Brown and Jordan Lewis for the season.

And I was talking to Cowboys safety Jayron Kearse in the locker room, and I was like, basically about how to handle it. And I think there was some degree of the Cowboys saying hey, if we don’t have the corners, let’s put four safety stuff in there. For example, let’s just get our most physical, most similar tasks we’ve played out there, even if it’s not necessarily the positions they’ve played all year.

And obviously Tom Brady — he didn’t look like an accurate quarterback that day, and obviously that offense wasn’t working the way it had in previous years, but they caught 12 of his passes. And I don’t need to get 12. Brock Purdy, if he can keep getting your defensive line so disruptive that your secondary is kind of opportunistic, and he gets a couple of chances, then I think the Cowboys have a chance.

Now all that said, I think the Niners are a better team. So I’m really going back and forth as to what’s going to happen. But I think if the Cowboys win, it will be through the formula I just mentioned.

Charles MacDonald: I’m really excited for this match, especially the way Duck played last week. And you think about how thoughtful DeMeco Ryans are, he’s a fun chest mask as a quarterback for his defensive coordinating perspective. Like, you can see what a team that’s like a quarterback really needs to do plays–

Charles Robinson: yes.

Charles MacDonald: – Against a team – a team where the quarterback has to be the joystick for the head coach as we saw last week with Brooke Purdy and Kyle Shanahan. So I think from a stylistic point of view these two teams are pitted against each other. There is a lot of fun. And I can’t wait to see the final result on this version of Duck because I think he’s been playing really well this year. That was an awful week 18 game.

But outside of that, I think he had one of the strongest years of his career, and then opposite DeMeco Ryan who’s been elite as a defensive coordinator since he got the job. This is like the final game of the weekend. So I can’t really say who will win because both teams are very good. And so I get why the spreads are closed, but I can’t really call it any way. I guess this is like a coin flip for me in terms of who I think is going to win that coin.

Charles Robinson: Yeah, I mean, just like the two of you, I go back and forth staring at matches. And I think the subject of Vander Esch is really interesting. I mean, that’s a good point because I think this is definitely one of those games where Shanahan can stare at, well go.

I have two running backs that I know can rush 1,000 yards if they are healthy and can be used in different ways. I have a depo. I can hand the ball to Deebo in creative ways. Let’s run it 60 times. [LAUGHS]

We’re going to throw in a number of drills designed for Purdy, get pushy on how you throw the ball, and let’s see how that handles the front handles. We just run on it constantly and whether or not they eventually get tired. And run it at Micah, you know. Let’s see, let’s see how long Micah can hold out.
