Wisconsin bike trails to explore near Madison

Get off the bike in Pauli Wisconsin

How could an unincorporated town have so many wonderful things? I’d say it’s a hidden gem – but speaking to the locals, it’s not so hidden anymore. Right along the Sugar River, this two-block town is a great stopping point for roadrunners and bikers. This unincorporated town has a bike shop!

There are a number of options for lunch in the small town of Paoli. If you’re looking for something a little more refined and wholesome (don’t worry—you can wear your bike clothes!), check this out Pauli Schoolhouse Bistro. The one-room schoolhouse was built in 1854. The schoolhouse was last used as a school in 1972 by the Belleville School District. It now serves delicious lunch and dinner with fresh local ingredients and innovative cocktails.

If you are looking for something more convenient and fast, check out the Mill in Paoli. The historic stone mill is home to an array of boutiques, artisan food makers, brew purveyors and hospitality providers in an idyllic park setting. I suggest you pick up a burrito from Molino Taqueria.

With the hardest part of your trip already over, I’d also suggest you grab a beer at the Hope Garden, sit outside by the river, and take a little break! Granted – if you’re riding, you can’t drink much, but Hop Garden is a really great brewery. They grow their own hops for a delicious little beer! I visited their tap room at Mill in Paoli and also went to visit their farm to see the entire hop growing process – from farm to tap! It is one of the few breweries in Wisconsin that grows its own hops.
