Wolves are preparing to offer Ruben Neves a new contract but the future is far from certain


Wolves are set to offer influential midfielder Ruben Neves a new contract in a bid to secure his long-term future at the club, 90 minutes understand.

Neves has been a player in Wolverhampton since 2017 when he surprisingly replaced Porto and the Champions League for the second division championship.

But the 26-year-old was instrumental in establishing Wolves as a Premier League club and helped them reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League in 2019/20.

However, Nevis’ long-term future has been uncertain for some time and remains so now. His contract extension was last signed in 2018 and will expire at the end of next season, meaning he is just over four months away from entering the final year of that deal.

Neves will soon play his 250th match for Wolverhampton. He’s missed just one Premier League game so far this season – as a result of yellow card accumulation – and has led the side for most of the season too.

But with Wolves struggling in the bottom half of the Premier League table this season and Neves nowhere close to returning to the Champions League – or indeed any European competition at this point – he is likely to face a new challenge.
