The second-year quarterback has struggled this season, but his biggest struggle came last Sunday in the 10-3 loss to the Patriots when he completed just nine passes out of 22 attempts for 77 yards.
Based on what he told the media after the game, Wilson admitted that the sitout was “deserved” as he needed to work on being a “better captain” for the team.
“Tough, man,” said Wilson. via SNYTV. “You know what, it’s deserved. The way I handled the situation just wasn’t right. I have to be a better footballer, and then I have to be a better captain for these guys.”
Wilson said he was not approached by anyone in the locker room about the comments, but instead initiated discussions with several teammates.
“It was a situation I knew I had to bring up on them,” Wilson said. via SNYTV. “The way you handled it wasn’t right.”
Regarding the quarterback’s struggles on the field, Wilson said NFL Network’s Mike Giardi He wasn’t “surprised” when he learned of his seats because he wasn’t doing his “business”.
Wilson has led the Jets to a 5-2 record in the seven games he has started this season. Backup Mike White will start for the team on Sunday.
